Waterford homeless figures exceed 100 adults for fourth month in a row

Waterford represents around a third of the emergency accommodation population of the region.

In November 2024, 109 adults were in emergency accommodation in Waterford.

That is according to the latest figures published by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage in the monthly Homelessness report.

This is the joint busiest month for the emergency accommodation services in Waterford with September’s figure also 109.

It is also the fourth month in a row that the figure has exceeded 100 adults.

The report does not give a breakdown of children but a regional figure for families is available.

According to the report, 94 children and 59 families were in emergency accommodation in the South East region.

SOUTH EAST REGION 

The South East region also includes Tipperary, Wexford, Carlow and Kilkenny.

The figures presented in the report are snapshot data collected between November 18 and 24, 2024.

In the South East region, 325 adults were in emergency accommodation in that time period.

Waterford represents around a third of the emergency accommodation population of the region.

More men than women were in emergency accommodation in the South East.

More than 70% were Irish and the largest age group was 25-44 year olds. 198 adults were in supported emergency accommodation, such as family hubs and hostels with on-site support.

128 were in private emergency accommodation, such as B&Bs and other residential facilities.

None were in temporary emergency accommodation.

Nationally, 10,541 adults, 4,658 children and 2,168 families were in emergency accommodation in November 2024.
