Waterford Gardaí involved in major Interpol operation that led to 63 arrests following nationwide searches

As part of a major law operation in conjunction with Interpol, the Gardaí and law enforcement agencies across 20 other countries around the world recently carried out enforcement under Operation Jackal.
The planned operation took place between April and July and in Ireland, under the title of Operation Skein, it resulted in 63 people being arrested.
Seventeen people were charged and six were dealt with under the Juvenile Diversion Programme.

A spokesperson for the Gardaí told Waterford News & Star that 37 searches were carried out and 11 phones were seized along with two cars, valued approximately at €40,000, on suspicion of them having been purchased with stolen or laundered money.
The Garda spokesperson also said €81,133 and $260,953 in cryptocurrency was seized.

He said that 17 bank accounts were blocked under suspicion or being opened under false names.
The searches and arrests were carried out by Gardaí attached to the GNECB (Garda National Economic Crime Bureau), members of the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) along with personnel from Waterford, Tallaght, Tralee, Portlaoise, Coolock, Blanchardstown, Tipperary, Galway, Lucan, Ballyfermot and Clondalkin.
