Payments under the Beef Welfare Scheme are set to be issued over the coming days, according to Waterford Minister for State for Planning and Local Government John Cummins.

In total, farmers in Waterford will see €391,636 of the €28.07 million allocated for the scheme.

Minister Cummins says the Beef Welfare Scheme 2025 aims to help farmers enhance animal health on suckler farms.

“I’m delighted to see funding of €391,636 for farmers in Waterford as part of this scheme.

“The Beef Welfare Scheme 2025 supports farmers in meal feeding suckler calves before and after weaning, in vaccinating against clostridial diseases and calf pneumonia, and carrying out testing measures.

"This crucial payment will be visible in farmers’ bank accounts in the coming days.

“I also want to remind farmers that if they have received a request to submit meal feeding, vaccination or testing documentation, they should return them as soon as possible.

“Minister Heydon has secured a further €28 million for a continuation of this scheme in 2026 and discussions have already taken place with the farming organisations on it.

"This will come as a welcome relief to so many farmers across Waterford,” said Minister Cummins.
