Waterford Election 2024: 11 questions with Cllr Seamus Ryan (Labour Party)

Councillor Seamus Ryan
Ahead of this weekend’s local elections the Waterford News & Star asked candidates to answer 11 quickfire questions to give the electorate a view of their priorities and what can be expected from them if elected.
It should not be a question of either / or. This country is wealthy enough to afford the provision of both resources. I joined with the people of Waterford and the South East to march for 24/7 cardiac care unfortunately despite promises we still have not received that essential health service here in University Hospital Waterford. As regards the airport Waterford and the SE is the only region in the country without a regional airport. I believe that government should approve the business plan that’s in front of them at the moment and allow for the development of the airport which will see regular flights coming in and out of Waterford.
There are a number of issues really. Amongst them is the lack of social and affordable housing in our area and there also needs to be greater investment in our roads and footpaths within our housing estates.

I first entered politics to represent the people of Waterford and to improve my local community. I have worked to improve public services in Waterford since my election making myself available to my constituents.
I began the campaign to bring BreastCheck, the breast cancer screening programme for women, to Waterford as at the time we were the only region in the country without this essential service. Following our campaign, I was delighted to see that the service was introduced here and has now been available here for several years.
Potholes because if they are not fixed our roads become even more dangerous for cyclists, motorists and all road users.
I’m a tea drinker.

That would be Deirdre!
Major increase in the provision of social and affordable housing.
