Waterford dental clinic fully compliant with HIQA

The clinic was found to be fully compliant
A County Waterford HSE dental clinic was one of three found to be fully compliant with European standards and regulations following a recent HIQA (Health Information and Health Authority) inspection.
A total of 26 inspection reports were carried out nationally by HIQA and the announced inspection of HSE Dental Clinic, Cappoquin, took place over on Wednesday, January 31.
As part of the inspections carried out HIQA reports the overall effectiveness of the centres inspected.
It examined how the centre provides technical systems and processes and how service users only undergo medical exposures to ionising radiation where the potential benefits outweigh any potential risks and such exposures are kept as low as reasonably possible.
HSE Dental Clinic Cappoquin provides dental treatment to children and to adults, and children with additional needs. There is an intra-oral dental X-ray unit in the facility.
In the clinic located on Barrack Street, the inspector 'was satisfied that there was a clear allocation of responsibilities to ensure safe and effective care for those undergoing exposure to ionising radiation as required by regulation'. The inspector was informed during the inspection that the intra-oral unit of equipment at HSE Dental Clinic Cappoquin had recently been taken out of use 'due to an issue with image quality'. However, that issue was being followed up on with the vendor who had made several service visits to investigate the issue, which led the inspector to note that 'these actions demonstrated good oversight of radiation protection'.
