Dungarvan councillor Kate O’Mahoney has announced that she has been formally appointed as a Peace Commissioner by the Minister for Justice.

Cllr O’Mahoney said the role will help her to better serve the people of Waterford.

A peace commissioner can witness legal documents and support community and civic matters.

“Through my advice and advocacy clinics, I see every day how important accessible and reliable support is, and this appointment gives me another way to make a difference.

As the youngest Councillor on Waterford City & County Council – and the only female Councillor in the Dungarvan LEA – I’m proud to bring a fresh perspective to local representation.

"I hope this role will make it easier for all people, to reach out and access the support they need.

“Thank you to the Minister and the Department of Justice for this honor. I look forward to undertaking this duty with integrity and continuing to represent my constituents with dedication, said Cllr O’Mahoney.
