“Waterford City and County Council, together with the Land Development Agency, is purchasing a site at Knockenduff, Tramore.
“The site was being sold by the vendor as an overall parcel of lands. This parcel of land of circa 7Ha is comprised of an element designated for residential and an element designated for amenity.
“The main reason for the overall purchase was to open this strategic land for the delivery of housing options.
“This site will allow for the provision of 100 plus social homes in the area.
"There are no confirmed proposals for the final use of amenity element of the land purchase at present and any proposals for this use will be progressed in due course,” said the spokesperson.
It was reported on WLR FM on Friday that the amenity area would possibly be a sports ground or facility.
While the council say that there are currently no proposals to be progressed, councillors Lola O’Sullivan and Blaise Hannigan are hopeful for a space for local clubs.
In response to the news, local representatives seemed hopeful for a sports ground or facility.
WLR also reported that the Frisby Group are to submit a planning application to convert the Grand Hotel in Tramore into an aparthotel. An aparthotel would combine apartments and hotel accommodation.
