Waterford council called on to support vital Red Cross team

'The Red Cross and first responders do wonderful work, and are a huge benefit to have in the area' - Cllr Seanie Power
Councillor Catherine Burke has asked that Waterford City and County Council use some of the funding provided to the Portlaw Red Cross building to fix the roof.
She said at a recent sitting of Comeragh Council that she visited the centre, and while the ceiling had been fixed, the roof had not.
“The building is owned by the council. So, to make sure the Red Cross have a place to park the ambulance and charge the ambulance, to store the medications, we as a council need to support the Red Cross,” said Cllr Burke.
Cllr Seánie Power supported Cllr Burke, saying they are very lucky to have the unit in the area.
“The Red Cross and first responders do wonderful work, and are a huge benefit to have in the area, and their building is in disrepair," he said.
He added that responders from Carrick-On-Suir also do "mighty work".
"I want to say we are so lucky to have them so close,” said Cllr Power.
Comeragh Administrator Honor Dunphy confirmed that the council has plans to fix the roof.
“We are prioritising the securing of the building. That is the initial works to be carried out, and it is a costly thing we are doing, so we will get that sorted and will work on that going forward,” said Ms Dunphy.
