Waterford community saddened at passing of talented hurler

People in a rural area of County Waterford were saddened recently to learn of the passing of a very popular member of the community.

Edmond (Ned) Sheehan, from Kilkeany, Ballymacarbry, passed away peacefully on August 2.

A formidable hurler in his youth he was also a history-maker as he played at left half-back on the 1955 Fourmilewater county winning junior team which was the squad who secured the club's first ever adult county title.

Ned was predeceased by beloved grandson, Eoin, parents Tom and Catherine Sheehan, brothers Paddy, Maurice, Jack, Tommy, Mick, sisters Ellen (Murphy) and Tessie (Power) and is survived by his beloved wife Biddy, sons Anthony and Jim, daughters Colleen (Catherine) and Claire, daughter-in-law Noreen, son-in-law Tony, grandsons Ger, Caoimhin, Cian, Oran, Oisin, Conal, Olan and granddaughter Enya, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. Requiem mass for Ned was in St Helena’s Church, The Nire, followed by burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
