Staff at Supervalu Hypercentre have gone above and beyond to help a Waterford family in need.
Nicola and Adam Doyle were on a holiday of a lifetime in California with their three young children when Adam suffered a terrible accident.
He was a patient at the Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose and needed emergency surgery to remove two discs from his neck.

The family are facing financial difficulties as Adam recuperates. The accident has drained their finances. The family are eager to return home to Ireland and are in contact with the Irish consulate. The situation is having a terrible effect on the whole family, especially the children, who are aged 13, 11 and eight months.
According to Nicola, as of May 29, Adam has one more medical appointment in the US and should be fit to fly home to Ireland. She wrote on GoFundMe: "Adam can continue his rehabilitation at home, which I'm thrilled about. We can't wait to be free of this situation."
Their plight has stirred their community here in Waterford into action. At Supervalu, staff have launched a bucket appeal and raffle draw to help the family in their struggles. Nicola worked in the Supervalu Hypercentre for many years and is still a cherished friend to both staff and customers.

Staff member Marie Dalton told Waterford News and Star about the great response so far. Buckets have been placed on the checkout counters and in the staff room. The shop is selling off raffle tickets for a massive hamper, stuffed with chocolate, crisps, wine and cake.
The appeal was launched on Thursday and is expected to last throughout the June Bank Holiday weekend, a typically busy time for the outlet. Manager Pat Sinnott told the News and Star: "We are going to have a bucket collection in store Thursday and Friday for anyone who wants to donate and also will have some draw prizes like a €100 hamper, air fryers, wine and chocolates for anyone donating."
Photographer Joe Evans captured the great efforts made to help ease the family's ordeal.
