Waterford based Rescue 117 helicopter creates history with Cork landing

The Rescue 117 Irish Coast Guard rescue helicopter created a little bit of history on Tuesday, September 10, when it was the first SAR aircract to land at Cork University Hospital in two decades.
In an online post on the rescue helicopter's social media page the crew noted that the last helipad at CUH was decommissioned in 2003.
"It is fantastic to see the new helipad come into service," stated Rescue 117 in its post.
"This is a vital facility for all emergency helicopters operating in the area and huge advancement for those that may need urgent medical care in the future," it added, describing the facility as fantastic.
Rescue 117 is the Coast Guard helicopter based out of Waterford airport and has been involved in hundreds of search and rescue missions around the south east of the country.
