WATCH: Temporary halt to bridge lifts in Waterford City
There is a temporary suspension of Edmund Rice Bridge lifts in Waterford.
Waterford City and County Council has issued a notice advising the public there is a temporary suspension of bridge lifts in relation to Rice Bridge.
A spokesperson for the local authority said: "Waterford City and County Council wishes to advise that the Edmund Ignatius Rice Bridge will be unable to open upon request for an eight-week period, from July 20 to September 18."
The temporary suspension is necessary to facilitate scheduled upgrade works.

"The temporary suspension of bridge lifts forms part of a €5 million upgrade scheme being undertaken by Waterford City and County Council," said the spokesperson.
The works will include the upgrading of electrical systems and mechanical equipment associated with the opening span of the bridge.
Under Waterford City and County Council Bridge Bye-Laws 2024, No. 33, a 28-day public notice is required whenever the bridge is unable to open upon request for scheduled maintenance.
"Waterford City and County Council acknowledges the importance of the Edmund Ignatius Rice Bridge to river users and thanks all affected parties for their understanding and co-operation while these essential works are carried out," said the spokesperson.
The bridge will remain unavailable for opening upon request from Monday, July 20 until Friday, September 18.
