WATCH: Excitement in Waterford City as first part of bridge installed

The Sustainable Transport Bridge will be installed in segments. Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
If you happened to be in town today (Wednesday, May 21), you might have noticed scores of people scurrying towards the Suir to catch a glimpse of the sustainable transport bridge being installed.
People stopped along the plaza to witness a rare thing for Waterford; a large-scale infrastructural project in motion.
The bridge installation was preceded by a few days by the arrival of the large HEBO 9 floating crane to Waterford City
The sustainable transport bridge is at the heart of the North Quays Development Zone. According to Waterford City and County Council: "The transport, lifting and installation of the four steel decks is a complex logistical and engineering challenge."
The four steel decks are expected to be lifted over four days, from May 21 until May 24.
A WCCC spokesperson said: “Installation is not a single big lift. It will take four days to complete so there are plenty of opportunities to view the process. Please do not enter active work zones, wharves, or construction areas.”
