The South East Mountain Rescue (SEMRA) Association was called into action to assist a walker who became disorientated on the Galtee Mountains.

The unit was tasked by the Gardaí to assist the walker at around 5.40pm on Thursday.

In a post on its social media page the rescue organisation stated: "The team responded to the Black Road and the first of the team Land Rovers was making its way up the track at 18.15pm."

"The walkers position was confirmed by a phone find and team members made their way to the location," stated the organisation in its post.

The walker was escorted back to the team Land Rovers on the Black Road and driven from there back down to the carpark. The stand down call was made at 8pm with the walker back at the car and the team members all safely back down from the hill.

It's believed the walker became disorientated due to poor visibility.
