Vulnerable local woman remanded in custody

The woman will be sentenced next month.
A vulnerable woman has been remanded in custody due to her 'unstable' accommodation status and several bench warrants.
The woman appeared at Waterford Circuit Court on foot of a bench warrant. She has incurred several bench warrants, the latest relating to her involvement in a recent robbery of a vape shop.
Defence counsel Paul W. Hutchinson, BL, told Judge Eugene O'Kelly that the defendant did not intend to mislead the court and had not received the legal correspondence requesting her appearance.
The court heard that the local woman is living in homeless accommodation. She listed a hostel as her main address but does not regularly receive post.
Mr Hutchinson said: "She lives in the pods on a casual basis. There is no guarantee of a bed, it's not stable accommodation."
He went on to detail that an issue with the social welfare office led to her money being cut off and that she has been begging on the streets of Waterford.
Upon remanding her in custody, Judge O'Kelly said: "I'm sorry to do it but this is the third warrant on the matter and the sixth in total."
She will be sentenced next month, along with the completion of a psychological report.
