UK man appears in Waterford Courthouse over drink driving ban
State Solicitor Frank Hutchinson provided the man with some solace, saying that if his blood alcohol concentration was just 1 milligram higher on the day of the incident, he would have received a three-year disqualification.
A man from Birmingham, England, travelled to Waterford this week to appeal a drink driving offence he had previously received.
Allan Bradley, of Pennyfield Croft, Birmingham, had a blood alcohol concentration of 149 milligrams of alcohol per 100ml of blood on the day of the incident. He received a two-year disqualification from driving for the offence.
He appealed this penalty in front of Judge Christopher Callan at Waterford Circuit Court this week.
Bradley said that he believed the blood alcohol concentration reading was inaccurate, but did not deny drinking on the day. Judge Callan said he had no option but to disallow this appeal, and his two-year driving disqualification was upheld.
State Solicitor Frank Hutchinson provided the man with some solace, saying that if his blood alcohol concentration was just 1 milligram higher on the day of the incident, he would have received a three-year disqualification.
"It could have been worse," Mr Hutchinson said.
