Tributes paid to Waterford man who died in crash on Christmas day 

The late Alan Walsh from St John's Park, Waterford City

Tributes have been paid to a man who died in a road traffic accident in Waterford on Christmas Day.

Alan Walsh from St John’s Park died when the e-scooter he was travelling on collided with a car at the junction of Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road. 

His funeral took place on Saturday, December 27, at the Sacred Heart Church, The Folly.

O’Sullivans Bar and Restaurant on the Mall, where Mr Walsh worked, paid tribute on social media to their late colleague.

“In loving memory of our dear colleague Alan. Alan was a treasured and deeply loved member of our team, and one of our loved friends. 

"His positive attitude impacted everyone in the best way possible.

“Alan always had a smile on his face. We are all grateful for the time we shared and the memories we carry forward. 

"We offer our sincerest condolences to his family, especially his son Sean and daughter Ava.

“Alan left a positive mark on every single one of us here at O’Sullivan’s,” wrote O’Sullivan's.

Mr Walsh was predeceased by his grandparents and his nephews Thomas and Jack.

He is missed by his son Sean, daughter Ava, his mother, Esther, father Tommy, brothers Thomas and Mark, sisters Lorraine, Karen and Sarah, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Tributes have been posted on social media and on RIP.ie.

One friend called the late Mr Walsh “one of the kindest, funniest” people they had ever met.

Others described him as an “absolute gentleman”, while hundreds of people expressed their condolences to Mr Walsh’s family.

GARDA APPEAL 

An Garda Síochána are appealing for witnesses to the collision.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road between 10.45am and 11.15am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

The driver of the car, a male in his 80s, was taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of injuries, which were non-life-threatening.

Forensic Collision Investigators conducted a technical examination of the scene, and investigations are ongoing.
