Traffic management to be implemented for Waterford school and road works

Waterford City & County Council has issued a notice to motorists in advance of traffic management measures being implemented in the city as a result of school infrastructure works taking place.
A spokesperson for the local authority said that from Monday, June 15, construction works will commence in the Newtown area of Waterford City.
"The infrastructure works are in relation to the St. John of God National School, Passage Road, Active Travel Safe Routes to School Scheme (SRTS), and the Newtown area one-way systems [Phases 1 and 2]," she said.
The trial one-way systems that have been in place will be formalised through the installation of permanent infrastructure as part of these works.
Phase 1 will be Wilkin Street and Passage Road, Waterford City and Phase 2 will be St. Alphonsus Road, a section of Newtown Lower and a section of Water Street.
The works for the above SRTS Scheme and one-way systems will take place on or adjacent to Passage Road, John’s Hill, Wilkin’s Street, St. Alphonsus Road, Newtown Lower and Water Street.
"The appointed contractors will implement traffic management systems for the duration of the works," said the local authority spokesperson.
"All traffic management arrangements will fully comply with current health and safety standards," she added, referencing chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual.
Residents and road users are advised that as the works will be taking place on or adjacent to public roads, they may experience some disruption, however, the Council said that every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience.
