The life of Waterford's Francis 'Boots' Casey is remembered

The late Francis 'Boots' Casey.

The life of Francis ‘Boots’ Casey was remembered during his funeral service at The Immaculate Conception Church, Fenor, on Monday, following his death last week.

Born in 1955, Francis was a much-loved father of 10 and grandfather of 14.

Symbols brought to the altar to reflect Francis’ life during the mass included a hotrod trophy, symbolising his love for racing.

A boat reflected his love of fishing, and symbolised the happiness and joy he had during the summer months fishing for mackerel.

A play script showed his huge involvement in shows and drama throughout the years, all of which brought out the best of his character, both on and off the stage.

Also brought forward were spanners, a symbol of his skill and dedication and the countless hours he spent helping others through his craft as a mechanic.

Lastly, a pair of football boots demonstrated his love for the sport, and the passion, commitment and joy he shared with others as a teammate and friend.

A hard and gifted worker all of his life, Francis served as a trusted mechanic throughout his years, and was often seen working on engines in his shed.

He held a lifelong love of fishing, and with his own boat he spent countless summers fishing out of Boatstrand.

Francis was also a talented actor, always remembering his lines effortlessly and delivering them with skill.

GAA was one of his foundational passions in his life, kitting out for both Kill and Fenor in his younger years.

Francis also served as a groundsman.

Remembered as a “strong, versatile and tough player” in his day, he was honoured with a guard of honour at his funeral mass.

Francis is predeceased by his parents Edmond and Bridget, his brother Bernard and sister-in-law Helen.

He is sorely missed by his loving wife Mary, to whom he was married for 47 years, his 10 sons Eddie, John Paul, Philip, Ray, Brendan, Peter, Colm, David, Luke and Jer, sisters Anne and Maudy, brother Michael, daughter-in-laws, grandchildren, aunt Eileen, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.

May he Rest in Peace.
