Striking new mural painted in Tramore holds special significance for family

The new mural created in Tramore.
Locals may have noticed that a striking new mural has been painted in the centre of Tramore this week and wondered of its meaning.
The mural depicting a koi fish and lighthouse, was commissioned by chef Dennis Myler for the gable wall of his business The Lemon Drop and is beautifully realised by artist Dylan Crosbie, a young upcoming tattoo artist based in Waterford.
Over the course of four days, Dylan completed the new work.
The mural holds special significance for Dennis, as it’s based on artwork commissioned by his wife, Shona, for him in 2008. This original artwork was created by Dennis’s brother, Joe Myler, an internationally renowned tattoo artist who sadly passed away during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The mural depicts transcending trials and tribulations and stands as a tribute to Joe.
Dennis said: "Like the Irish Salmon, Koi fish represent strength, perseverance and good fortune, forging one’s own path upstream."
The mural is also deeply connected to Dennis’s long history with the sea off Dunmore East.
His father, Denis, was a Captain for Arklow Shipping, often anchoring in Dunmore East. He would later spend many fond years fishing there.
The lighthouse, as depicted in the mural, would bring him safely through the notoriously difficult waters off the Waterford coast.
