A Wexford woman has pleaded guilty to four counts of theft from shops in Waterford, which included the taking of a customer's phone.

Charlotte Conway, (19) of Dunmaine House, Campile, Wexford, pleaded guilty to four counts of theft between January and May 2025, at a sitting of Waterford District Court before Judge John Cheatle.

The court heard that in relation to one theft, the taking of an iPhone on January 6, the injured party left her handbag.

An anonymous person returned it to the Lidl store on Dunmore Road, but when the injured party went to retrieve it, she was told it had been returned to an individual whom the staff believed it belonged to.

The bag was located, but the phone was not in it.

Judge Cheatle asked if the phone had ever been found, as it may contain “precious memories.” The solicitor acting for the defendant, Ken Cunningham, confirmed it had not and said he did ask about its location.

He said his client had addiction issues at the time of the offence.

Judge Cheatle put the matter back to October for the preparation of a probation report and victim impact statement.
