St. Brigid’s Family and Community Centre first opened its doors to the community in Waterford forty years ago.
Since then, the service has aided countless locals, through their parent and toddler groups, adult counselling, relationship counselling, adolescent counselling, art and play therapy, yoga and more.
As part of their services, they also have a children’s centre, which serves children aged one to 12.
The facility is essential to families in inner city Waterford who rely on safe, high quality childcare while they work or study.
In the birthday celebrations held at their facility on the Lower Yellow Road last week, a large number of guests gathered, all in jubilant form. On the same day, the centre’s Strategic Plan 2025 to 2029 was launched.
Present during the ceremony was Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr Seamus Ryan, who was one of St. Brigid’s first volunteers during its earliest days.
Addressing guests during the ceremony, he reflected on the centre’s subsequent decades of dedication towards the Waterford community.
“Since it first opened, it has consistently changed with needs, while holding to its core mission of support, dignity and empowerment," he said.
“The centre is much more than a provider of services, it is a meeting place, a resource, a lifeline and for many a second home.
"Behind all of this is the human dimension, the staff, the volunteers and the local people who give their time, trust and energy."
