Spraoi time as festival fever hits Waterford

This year's Spraoi festival has taken over Waterford City streets.
The weekend will see street theatre, comedy, music and art from Irish and European artists.
Beginning with Thursday evening's performance, 'Death From Laughter' right through the weekend to the grande finale Spraoi parade and fireworks display on Sunday night it will have something of interest for everbody.
This year's parade is a big one, according to Spraoi's artistic director Mike Leahy, with over 200 volunteers involved in the parade, eight weeks of float making and about a month of rehearsals all coming together this Sunday evening, August 2.
The parade involves a lot more people and an awful lot more work than audiences might imagine, with preparations for the summer parade starting as early as January.
Ahead of the weekend Waterford News & Star took a tour of the Spraoi Studios in Carrickpherish, Waterford to get a glimpse of how the magic happens behind the scenes.
