Sports facilities in Tramore in County Waterford are "well below standards"
Cllr Lola O'Sullivan said this week that sporting facilities in Tramore are well below standards
Calls were made this week by Cllr Lola O’Sullivan to improve sporting facilities in Tramore, which she described as being "well below standards".
Cllr O’Sullivan called on Waterford Council to devise a plan on how to provide additional facilities for the people of the seaside town.
She said: “We do not have enough sports facilities. I think now is the time we support trying to purchase lands to support the likes of Tramore Rugby Club, Tramore Athletic Club, Tramore Badminton Club, Tramore Camogie Club, to name a few."
“On the last Council we met with the club’s and we all agreed how desperate it is for them all to have no facilities, its just not acceptable anymore," she said.
“I don’t expected it to happen overnight, but we have five years to make this good plan so we can support each other to make the facilities suitable for the young people of Tramore," she added.
Responding to the query, Waterford Council Director of Services, Michael Quinn said that finding a viable solution would be difficult.
Mr. Quinn said: “We’re very aware of the demand there. It is quite a significant issue."
“The difficulty we have is there potentially are huge costs that the council has no mechanism to fund," he said.
“Whilst we are sympathetic to it, it is something we are looking at particularly with projects in Tramore, I’m not entirely sure we have a simple solution for it.”
