Apollo 11 marked a watershed moment in the ‘Space Race’ between the United States and the USSR

The South East Astronomy Club will be hosting a conversation entitled 'What Was it Really Like on Apollo 11?' in the SETU Arena on Wednesday, October 29, at 7.30pm.

Seanie Morris of the Midland Astronomy Club will speak at the event. Mr Morris is the STEM Engagement Officer for Laois County Council.

Apollo 11 was the first crewed lunar landing and journey back to Earth more than 50 years ago. Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins were the onboard pilots.

Armstrong stepped out onto the Moon’s surface on July 20, 1969, uttering the famous words: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

Apollo 11 marked a watershed moment in the ‘Space Race’ between the United States and the USSR, while permanently altering the limits of space exploration.

Admission to the event is free.
