Waterford local Sandra Mansfield had her life turned upside down after receiving her cancer diagnosis in December of 2024.

“It was a shock and a scary change in my life that was not expected,” she said.

She added that the Solas Cancer Support Centre became a valuable support for her during her battle.

“I live near the Solas Cancer Support Centre, and I have passed the centre every day since the centre opened its doors in Williamstown in 2011.

"I have always admired the work they do, and I had heard such good stories from so many people over the years.

“The Solas Cancer Support Centre has been an unbelievable support to me. From the very first day I walked through the doors of the centre the feeling of peace and calm I felt, I cannot explain, the effect it had on me."

The Solas Cancer Support Centre’s Run and Walk for Life returns to the streets of Waterford this Sunday, October 12, and on Dungarvan’s Greenway on Saturday, October 11.

All funds raised will go towards supporting the running costs of the service.

Last year, the Run and Walk for Life event raised a whopping €185,000.

Sandra said she will be participating in the 4K Family Walk for the first time this year, along with her husband and friends.

She is encouraging others to take part.

“After all the chaos someone was there offering support, kindness and practical help to show you that you are not alone on the journey and that help was there in many forms. I can never repay the kindness that has been shown to me but it's a little thank you.

“I am taking part with my husband Kevin and a few of my friends are joining me also so it should be fun.

"My two sisters live in Italy. They are doing a walk at the same time over there so will be with me virtually."

Registration for the Run and Walk for Life is still open online at www.solascentre.ie
