Minister of State for Planning & Local Government, John Cummins TD has confirmed that Scoil Mhuire Abbeyside have been approved to proceed to tender for their six-classroom school building project.

Minister Cummins has engaged extensively with Principal of Scoil Mhuire, Ruaidhri de Paor and stakeholders to progress the project in order to address the growing needs of the school and the wider area.

In a statement to the Waterford News & Star, Minister Cummins said: “I’m delighted that Scoil Mhuire have been granted approval to proceed to tender for this crucial project and I’d like to thank Ruaidhri de Paor and many others for their determination to pursue this project which has allowed us to progress to this phase. I’d also like to thank my Fine Gael colleague, Minister for Education, Hildegarde Naughton TD for her support.”

The project will see an existing prefab replaced by four mainstream classrooms under the Additional School Accommodation Scheme, while two Special Education classrooms will also be established.

Minister Cummins concluded: “These additional classrooms will provide much-needed capacity and support the excellent work being carried out by the school community every day. I will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to help bring this project to completion.”
