Shock in Waterford following fatal incident

The incident shocked the community.

A community in shock is how Deputy Conor McGuinness described the locality in County Waterford where a man in his 70s died and a man in his 40s was arrested.

The incident occurred in Cappagh, Dungarvan, on Monday, April 13, and Deputy McGuinness expressed shock and sadness at the events.

“This is devastating news for the Cappagh community and for the wider area," said Deputy McGuinness.

"People have woken this morning to a profound sense of shock and sadness at what has happened," he added.

"My thoughts and condolences are with the family of the man who has lost his life; their grief at this time is unimaginable."

Commenting on the close-knit nature of the community Deputy McGuinness said "news like this travels quickly and impacts deeply".

"There will be a real sense of hurt and disbelief locally today," he said.

"I would ask that the privacy of all those affected is respected in the hours and days ahead," he added, commenting: "This is not a time for speculation. It is important that An Garda Síochána are given the space and time they need to carry out a full and thorough investigation into what has occurred.”
