There was an 8% increase in road deaths from 2024 nationwide

Seven people died in road-related accidents in Waterford in 2025, according to provisional figures from the Road Safety Authority (RSA).

Across the 26 counties in the Republic of Ireland, Waterford had the 11th most road deaths, with Kildare also recording seven deaths.

Nationally there was an 8% increase in road deaths from 2024, with 185 fatalities recorded across 174 fatal collisions on public roads over the past twelve months.

Of the 185 fatalities, 76 were drivers (41%), 41 were pedestrians (22%), 30 were motorcyclists (16%), 21 were passengers (11%), 14 were pedal cyclists (8%) and 3 were e-scooter users (2%).

Data showed 16-25 year olds as the highest risk category, with 38 deaths recorded across the cohort- a 21% share of 2025’s total fatality count.

The majority (54%) of fatal collisions occurred on roads with speed limits of 80 km/h or above.
