SETU Arena will host the European Indoor Archery Championships from March 2-6, with over 460 archers from across the continent set to compete.

The event will be the first ever International Field Archery Association (IFAA) competition hosted in Ireland.

Mayor of Waterford City and County Council Seamus Ryan will open the championships, with the opening ceremony designed to celebrate Irish culture.

The championships are anticipated to generate €1.5 million for the regional economy.

“To see the European Indoor Archery Championships come to Waterford is something I’m incredibly proud of — both as Ireland’s International Representative and as someone who grew up here,” said IFAA representative Mark Deevy.

Mr Deevy is a Waterford native.

“With over 460 competitors taking part, including a record Irish contingent, this event highlights the strength of our sport and Waterford’s ability to host world-class international competition.

“We look forward to welcoming archers, officials, and spectators from across Europe to experience both the competition and true Irish hospitality.”

The championships will be open to the public. Spectators will be able to watch practice sessions as well as days of elite competition.
