School safety in County Waterford raised in Council Chamber

Fews National School are 'delighted' with recent safety enhancement, whilst increased safety measures outside Clonea Power National School are needed.
A number of issues regarding school safety were brought to light amongst councillors this week.
At the monthly meeting of the Comeragh District, Cllr Declan Clune commended Waterford City & County Council for their recent works at Fews National School, where new road safety measures have been implemented.
It was previously raised in the council chamber that there were ‘serious issues with speed’ outside the school, causing concern amongst parents and staff.
Cllr Clune said during the meeting: “The principal and Board of Management said they’re delighted with the work that was done there. It has made the area outside the school much safer for children and families.
“This is what we’re here for, so I was delighted to receive this, but I just want to acknowledge the huge work that the team did on making this happen.”
Additionally raised at the meeting was ongoing speed issues outside Clonea-Power National School.
Cllr Seanie Power inquired as to whether additional road safety measures would be implemented: “On the approach to the school from the Rathgormack direction its all downhill and cars speed down there. think it would make a big difference if the road was re-marked with school signs."
Responding to the query, Council Engineers said they would review the area.
