Roy Butler inquest verdict expected this week

Roy Butler inquest verdict expected this week

The late Roy Butler

The family of Roy Butler are expected to receive the verdict from his recent inquest by the end of this week as their three-year wait to find the cause of the 23-year-old's death back in August 2021 is set to be determined.

After a three-day hearing at the Cork Coroner's Court, Coroner Philip Comyn said the testimony was both “complicated and moving”.

Although it was widely hoped that the family would hear the decision of the coroner face-to-face, they are "baffled" by the fact that they will learn the cause of Roy's death by email. It's expected that the email should land in their inbox either Thursday or Friday of this week.

Roy died after a catastrophic brain bleed five days after he received a Johnson and Johnson Covid-19 vaccine, with State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster telling his inquest that the case was "baffling and unusual".

The talented footballer died at Cork University Hospital on August 17, 2021, after receiving a vaccine at a pharmacy five days earlier. He got the vaccine as he was planning a trip to Dubai.
