Review of Waterford's problematic Farronshoneen roundabout 'on the way'

Farronshoneen Roundabout, pre-design.
A review into the Farronshoneen Roundabout is 'on the way', according to the Council Executive.
At the April meeting of Waterford Metropolitan Council, Councillor Declan Barry asked about the embattled junction.
He said: "Nearly three months ago now, a commitment of a review was to take place regarding Farronshoneen Roundabout. I wonder when that review might be ready or are we near that."
Director of Services for Economic Development and Planning Michael Quinn said: "The works entailed in the review are on the way.
"The review report will be brought to the SPC (Strategic Planning Committee) for Transportation and Infrastructure first and then to this forum."
The roundabout was redesigned under the Active Travel Scheme but the changes have met a cold reception, with tailbacks and delays a regular feature in the area.
Earlier this year, nearly 2,000 people signed a petition demanding urgent changes to the roundabout in the name of public safety.
The petition was organised by Waterford City East councillors, who stated that the current design "has led to increased traffic congestion and safety concerns for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians".
"Since its implementation, the new design has seen a series of accidents, including severe collisions and near-misses."
