Retiring Waterford firefighter gave 23 years of service after career in the navy and UNIFIL

Waterford City fire station has said goodbye to firefighter Alan Smith, who has retired after 23 years of service.
The fire service announced his retirement in a post on social media.
We wish Alan the best in his retirement, where we are sure he will be keeping himself busy,” they wrote.
Mr Smith spent 10 years in the Irish Naval Service before joining the fire service.
In the navy, Mr Smith served as a naval rescue diver, and he also served with UNIFIL in Lebanon.
In their post, the fire service said Mr Smith is a “keen sports person” having completed numerous Triathlons and many Marathons.
“Along with the illustrious Iron Man title, he also represented Ireland on three occasions at the World Police and Fire games, bringing home a few medals been four silver and two bronze,” wrote the fire service.
