The outages were reported at Bishop's Grove.

Several residents in Bishop's Grove, Ferrybank, have reported water outages.

Councillor Eamon Quinlan (Fianna Fáil) said at the May Metropolitan meeting: "Residents have been on to me continuously for repeated water outages. They're losing water up to a dozen times over the last several months. They're not just out for a few hours, some of them have been out for days.

"Residents are saying that it's almost like the estate is under siege, especially for older people in that estate, without the ability to turn on a tap, flush a toilet or days without a shower. It's simply unacceptable."

Cllr Quinlan continued: "I would ask that we would suggest to Irish Water [Uisce Éireann] that we would go ahead and carry out whatever works are required to stabilize our water situation, and then we could be reimbursed by Irish Water."

Strict procedures

Director of Services Michael Quinn responded: "It's an Irish Water issue. Irish Water have very strict procedures into how we actually undertake their works, we'd be aware of that obviously because of the relationship."

He continued: "We are not in a position to step in or probably couldn't step in to offer our services to actually undertake work, even if we had the resources available to do it because of their procurement rules so all I'd suggest is that we raise it with Irish Water just to draw attention to it."
