Reports of fire on the Comeragh Mountains

There are unconfirmed reports that emergency services in Waterford are currently responding to reports of fire on the Comeragh Mountains.
It's believed large plumes of smoke are visible from a number of locations emanating from the mountains.
The Irish Coast Guard helicopter is also reportedly operating above the mountains.
The reported blaze comes in a week when fires have caused devastation in numerous parts of the country including Counties Kerry and Dublin and also on Slievenamon where wildfires resulted in smoke being experienced in various parts of Waterford.
In an online post Mountaineering Ireland, said: 'It's heartbreaking to see the damage caused by the fires over the last week. Mountain habitats and wildlife have been lost in places like Killarney National Park, the Dublin Mountains and Slievenamon.'
The organisation also expressed gratitude to all the firefighters and emergency personnel, including National Parks and Coillte staff, who work tirelessly in difficult and dangerous conditions to protect such 'precious places'.
However, the organisation also warned that with much of Ireland still very dry, the ongoing risk of wildfire remains high.
'It only takes one discarded cigarette, a campfire, a disposable BBQ or a single spark to start a fire with devastating consequences for our flora, fauna and upland landscapes,' noted the organisation in its post.
To reduce the risk of fire of heading outdoors the public is advised to never light campfires or use disposable BBQs; park responsibly and don't block forestry entrances as emergency vehicles may need access.
If a member of the public sees a fire they should report is immediately by calling 999 or 112.
