The HSE's South East Palliative Care Centre recently marked its fourth year in full operation as an outpatient facility in the Dunmore Wing of University Hospital Waterford, with its annual online remembrance ceremony.
Held in association with the Waterford Hospice Movement, the 20-minute event can be viewed on the HSE Dublin and South East’s YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MalTirX12k.
The occasion featured contributions from the South East Palliative Care Centre (SEPC) staff choir, Consultant in Palliative Medicine, Brian Creedon, the Centre’s Service Manager, Fiona Ramenaden, its Director of Nursing, Máiréad Bluett, writer and poet Lani O’Hanlon, Christine O’Dowd Smyth, of the Pastoral Care Team, and Senior Medical Social Worker, Aoife Troy.
A candle lighting ceremony, with music from the Waterford Healing Arts Trust and led by SEPC Ward Clerk, Valerie Mullane Grant, featured candles lit for grief, courage, memory, love and hope.
That was followed by a period of reflection for viewers to remember their own particular loved ones. The online video of the ceremony concludes with the contact details of supports available from ‘Éist’ in Carlow, ‘Cois Nore’ and ‘Kilkenny Bereavement Support’ in Kilkenny, ‘CARE’ in Clonmel, ‘Circle of Friends’ in Tipperary Town, the Solas Cancer Support Centre in Waterford and Dungarvan, the St. Brigid’s Family Resource in Waterford, the National Youth Council of Ireland’s ‘West Waterford Bereavement Support’, ‘Hope’ in Enniscorthy, ‘Talk to Tom’ in Gorey, the Irish Hospice Bereavement Support line, Barnados help line and ‘Anam Cara’ bereavement support line for parents.
