Reginald's Tower to offer free entry as Heritage Week returns

Waterford residents and visitors will have the chance to explore one of the city's most iconic landmarks for free as part of National Heritage Week 2026.
The Office of Public Works (OPW) has announced free admission to more than 50 heritage sites nationwide on Saturday, August 15, marking the opening weekend of the annual celebration.
In Waterford, Reginald's Tower will host an Antiquities Roadshow, where archaeologist Thomas Desmond will share stories from more than 35 years of excavations and assist visitors with identifying historical objects. The landmark will also host a talk on the history of the Limerick to Tralee railway line and a special guided tour in German focusing on Waterford's Viking and medieval heritage.
National Heritage Week runs from August 15 to 23 and this year's theme, 'Heritage at Risk', encourages people to reflect on Ireland's vulnerable cultural, built and natural heritage.
A wide range of events are planned at OPW sites across the country. Highlights include heritage talks on the history, geology and Viking connections of Dunmore Cave in Kilkenny, Viking archaeology experiences at Kells Priory, traditional willow basket-making workshops on Scattery Island in Co Clare, and medieval longbow demonstrations at Athenry Castle.
Minister of State with responsibility for the OPW, Kevin "Boxer" Moran, said the initiative offers people of all ages an opportunity to connect with Ireland's rich heritage while raising awareness of the importance of protecting it for future generations.
