Recruitment begins for Waterford's Jigsaw Branch

L-R: Director of Services for Jigsaw Sarah Cullinan; Waterford Fianna Fáil TD and Minister for Mental Health Mary Butler; Jigsaw CEO Dr. Joseph Duffy.

Waterford Fianna Fáil TD and Minister for Mental Health, Mary Butler, said recruitment has begun to staff Jigsaw’s newest branch in Waterford.

Jigsaw is a youth mental health service with 16 branches across the country. The service saw a 23% increase in demand across 2025.

In December, Minister Butler announced that a Waterford city-centre location will be opened, with €1 million ring-fenced for the project.

The centre will be used as an outreach for West Waterford, South Kilkenny and South Wexford.

“This was achieved through close collaboration between Ivan Grimes of Waterford City & County Council and a co-operating individual from Waterford who was well placed to assist in the provision of a premises,” said Minister Butler.

“I welcomed Jigsaw’s CEO, Dr Joseph Duffy, and Director of Services, Sarah Cullinan, to Waterford to view the building and they were delighted with its central location and suitability.

“Recruitment has already commenced to secure the clinical and administrative staff required.

“I will continue to work closely with the Jigsaw team to ensure this service opens at the earliest possible opportunity to support young people in Waterford and the South East with their mental health.”

Minister Butler said that Jigsaw had confirmed “strong interest” from existing staff who wish to relocate to Waterford.

Waterford Sinn Féin TD David Cullinane said: “Delighted to get an update from Jigsaw, the Youth Mental Health service, that they have identified a premises in Waterford and are close to agreement on a lease."

Deputy Cullinane is also Sinn Féin's Health spokesperson.

“Once it’s signed, they will move to hire the staff needed, with services expected to be in place in the second half of this year," he said.

“Conor McGuinness and I worked closely on this issue with Minister Mary Butler...Now let’s see this delivered."
