Councillor Thomas Phelan raised the issue of potholes on footpaths in Dungarvan at the December sitting of the Dungarvan-Lismore District Council.

He said that the footpath on Shandon Street had a pothole. He noted that a pothole on a footpath was “very unusual”. He said the potholes have been reported “several times”.

Cllr Phelan suggested that part of the footpath be segregated off to create more parking spaces in the future but he noted that the first priority was to fix the pothole.

Director of Roads for Waterford City and County Council Gabriel Hynes responded: “We’ve done a considerable amount of work on footpaths and we’re committed to doing more.”

Councillor Damien Geoghegan asked the council when the footpath programme will be put together.

Mr Hynes responded that a footpath workshop for councillors will take place in the New Year.
