Plans submitted to transform Ferrybank nursing home into apartments

A planning application has been submitted for the Rockshire Care Centre in Ferrybank, which ceased operations in 2022, with a view to developing apartments at the site.
A significant planning application has been submitted for the change of a former local residential care home to apartments.
RCC Care Ltd submitted the application to Kilkenny County Council this week, seeking permission to construct 22 apartment units at the Rockshire Care Centre in Ferrybank, which ceased operations in 2022.
The planned apartments comprise of four two-bed units and 18 one-bed units.
Should permission be granted by the local authority, modifications will also be made to the building’s existing facades, alongside the replacement of windows and doors and landscaping works.
The existing facade will be treated with balcony structures in order to give each unit private amenity space.
"The balcony structures will not only allow for private amenity space but also offer some defendable space between pathways and dwelling units to offer privacy to the units," the planning report states.
On the development site, the existing entrance will remain.
Vehicular access is located to the north-west of the site, with a parking area located to the rear.
Neighbouring dwellings are adjacent to the south-east and north-west of the property, with the remaining boundary backing onto a field behind to the south-west.
A decision on the development is expected from Kilkenny County Council on or before July 31.
