A planning application has been submitted for the construction of an apartment building on Davitt's Quay in Dungarvan.
A planning application has been submitted for the construction of a six-storey apartment building on Davitt's Quay in Dungarvan.
The area has been vacant for a number of years.
It formerly consisted of a number of stores and nightlife premises, including Murphy’s Bar & Restaurant, Waves Nightclub, Johnny Lynch’s greengrocer and Sip n’ Surf internet café.
Plans, which were submitted by the O'Brien Family Partnership, outline the intention to demolish these existing buildings to construct a six-storey mixed-use development, which will include a commercial unit to the ground and first floors, and apartments to the ground and upper floors.
The ground floor will comprise a single commercial unit, three apartments and lobby areas.
The first to fifth floors will comprise of a single commercial unit, 34 apartments and lobby areas.
13 of the apartments will be one-bedroom and 24 will be two-bedroom.
A communal roof garden is proposed to the fourth floor with hard and soft landscaping.
Planning has also been sought for signage, lighting and connection to the public water and wastewater system.
A design statement, which was submitted to Waterford City and County Council, outlines that the design concept of the development is to create “a nautical themed apartment block, which is sensitive to its surroundings”.
"Overall, the proposed development is considered to have a neutral to positive impact on the character and setting of the Dungarvan ACA," the statement further states.
The application has been deemed ‘incomplete’ by Waterford City and County Council, and thus additional information will need to be submitted by the applicant before the planning process can continue.
