Waterford planners have given the green light for alterations to an eight-turbine wind farm and electrical substation spanning across multiple townslands west of Dungarvan.
The Knocknamona windfarm was previously authorised in 2016 and again in 2022.
As part of the most recent plans permitted by the local authority last week, the existing eight turbines in the area will have their size increased by an overall height of 4 metres, from 155 metres to 159 metres.
During the planning process, four submissions were made by concerned locals.
Locals voiced concern over the wind turbines proximity to local homes, which locals fear will decrease the value of their properties.
The increase of traffic during the construction period, impacts on wildlife and noise of the turbines were issues which were also cited in submissions.
The planning officer’s response to the concerns was that that the proposed development would not give rise to significant adverse environmental or residential amenity impacts and would be consistent with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.
The planning application was granted permission on June 15.
