A Waterford councillor has said people in Passage East are “ living in fear” of landslides.

Councillor Declan Barry told officials at the February sitting of the Metropolitan District Council that there have been land or mudslides from the hills recently.

The councillor said he would like the council to carry out a safety audit.

“We had another landslide or mudslide there Saturday, Sunday morning. We had another one back in August, and we have another issue on another hill coming in from Crooke of a loose rock.

“I was informed at our last metro meeting that two wires supporting this rock for 50 years or more, one of these wires has gone.

“I would like a full safety audit done on those hills.

"People are living underneath there in fear of their lives, so I’m calling on the council to do a full safety audit there please," said Cllr Barry.

Roads engineer Alan Kirwan said he would take the councillor's comments and get an assessment done in Passage East.
