Over 200 cyclists take part in mental health and suicide awareness event

Back for its eleventh year, the annual Mental Health and Suicide Awareness Charity Cycle took place on Easter Sunday, with 255 cyclists taking part.

The cycle started from Crotty’s Inn carpark in Lemybrien, traversing its way through the villages of Kilmacthomas, Kilmeaden, Kill, Bunmahon and Durrow.

A long-time advocate for positive mental health, Cllr. Brazil is one of the founders of the initiative and has spent more than a decade organising events to raise awareness around mental health and suicide.

For Cllr. Brazil, the charity cycle was founded to help create a more open, inclusive and understanding society where people feel comfortable speaking about mental health with honesty and compassion.

Thanking everyone for their support this year, Cllr Liam Brazil said: "Everyone was so happy and enjoyed the cycle, and I think its so important for us to be promoting a positive mental health and I do think we should be talking more about it."
