Over €1.2 million allocated to towns and villages in Waterford

Six Waterford communities are to receive a total of €1.2 million in funding under the Towns and Village Renewal Scheme.

Waterford TD and Minister of State for Planning and Local Government, John Cummins, welcomed the allocation which will benefit communities across the county.

“I am thrilled for the six communities benefitting from today’s announcement and I believe it is money well spent.

“The success of these applications is testament to the work these communities do in partnership with Waterford City and County Council and I want to commend all involved for their tireless work which is leading to the betterment of communities across the county,” said Minister Cummins.

An Rinn is to receive €283,386 for the development of supporting infrastructure and green space amenities.

€300,000 has been allocated to create additional office capacity, supporting individuals and small businesses in Dunhill Eco Park.

Dunmore East will see €300,000 to upgrade of the existing children’s play area at Counsellor’s Strand.

Portlaw Park Regeneration Project will receive €300,000 to help with the redesign and delivery of upgraded outdoor facilities for Portlaw.

In Villierstown , €37,800 has been allocated the development of a project that includes the construction of a riverside facilities centre with parking, public lighting and landscaping.

And Lismore will see a boost for the development of Dervla Murphy’s home with €50,000 to aid design and assessments for the creation of an arts and literacy centre.

The Town and Village Renewal Scheme was introduced in 2016 and since then it has funded over sixty projects across the county to the tune of over €6million.

The scheme aims to rejuvenate town centres, drive economic growth and town footfall, combat dereliction and vacancy, develop pedestrian zones and outdoor spaces and boost tourism in rural Ireland.
