Sinn Féin TD for Waterford, Deputy David Cullinane, along with Cllr Pat Fitzgerald, visited Passage East village to meet residents affected by ongoing flooding linked to the storm water system running from the Brook to the Harbour.

Speaking after the visit Deputy Cullinane said: “It is clear that the existing infrastructure is no longer fit for purpose, with much of it dating back centuries and no clear mapping of what lies underground or where pipes may have collapsed or failed."

"I will be seeking an urgent meeting with the CEO of Waterford City and County Council and senior engineering staff to push for a full mapping and engineering assessment of the system, followed by a complete rebuild to modern standards," he said.

"I plan to raise the issue in the Dáil this week, calling for coordinated action and proper investment to finally address the flooding problems facing residents," he added.

“Residents deserve clarity, accountability and a long-term solution rather than temporary fixes.”
