Permission is being sought to change Walsh’s Hotel in Cappoquin to a hostel, whilst in Dungarvan, a nursing home is planning to build an additional 22 rooms.

At Walsh's, a number of alterations will be made to the existing hotel building to facilitate the change to hostel.

On the ground floor, an existing kitchen and dining room will be changed to two en-suite bedrooms and the ground floor lobby will be changed to provide a new reception. The removal of a bar and internal counters in the lounge area is also planned.

On the first floor, 10 bedrooms and a bathroom will be changed to six en-suite bedrooms and storage.

As the hotel has been closed for a number of years, repair works are also planned, along with upgrades of electrical, plumbing, heating and ventilation services. New fire protection measures will be added to the building.

Exterior works include the removal of fuel pumps on Barrack Street to provide three car parking spaces.

Three glamping pods are also planned to be installed at the site.

Meanwhile, CareChoice in Dungarvan have submitted a planning application to expand their nursing home by 22 rooms.

The development will consist of single en-suite bedrooms and other associated rooms, with demolition works also planned to enable the extension.
