Motorcyclist killed in Waterford road traffic collision

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Co. Waterford on Saturday, April 12.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred in Co. Waterford, on Saturday, April 12.

Shortly before 2pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving a motorcycle and a car on the R634 at Ballydasoon near Youghal on the Cork-Waterford border.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 60s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His remains were transferred to the mortuary at Waterford University Hospital for a post-mortem examination. 

The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was transported to Cork University Hospital for assessment.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators examined the scene and local traffic diversions were put in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information, particularly road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam recordings) from the area at the time, to contact Midleton Garda Station at 021-4621550, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

Community vans

The public are being informed that this Wednesday, April 16, An Garda Síochána will be available in their Community Van to complete forms, discuss concerns, report crime or any other business that requires Garda attention.

The Garda Community Engagement Vehicle will be in Portlaw (square) from 10am to 11am, Rathgormack (church carpark) from 11.30am to 12.30pm, Lemybrien (Garda Station) 1.45pm to 2.45pm and Stradbally Village Square from 3pm to 4pm.
