A Mayoral Reception has taken place to honour Waterford musician Eddie Sullivan.
Waterford City and County Mayor Jason Murphy said Mr Sullivan is “one of Waterford’s most beloved sons.”
“Today, we gather to celebrate not just the accomplishments of an extraordinary musician, but also the legacy of a man who has brought joy and music into the lives of so many,” said Mayor Murphy.
Eddie Sullivan was a former member of the Royal Showband.

He played the trumpet and joined the band in 1958.
Mr Sullivan left the band in the early 70s, but his contributions have continued through generations of fans listening since.

“For decades, your music has resonated with audiences far and wide, and your name is synonymous with the golden era of Irish music and entertainment. Whether it was on stage or in the hearts of fans, your talent and passion have always shone brightly,” said Mayor Murphy.

Cllr Murphy went on to say that Mr Sullivan was dedicated to the people of Waterford and has connected with generations in the Déise.
He said Waterford is proud to call him one of their own.
It is for that reason he was honoured in celebration of his achievements and gratitude for what he has done for the city.

“On behalf of the people of Waterford, I want to say, thank you. Thank you for the music, for the memories and for the joy you’ve shared with us all over the years," said Cllr Murphy.

“Your legacy is one that will continue to inspire future generations, and for that, we are truly grateful," added the Mayor.

He went on to comment: "May your music continue to inspire and may your contributions to our city be remembered for many years to come."
